At Adams Physical Therapy Services, we see athletes with mild sprains and strains, broken bones, back and neck injuries and even more serious injuries such as neck ligament, and shoulder rotator cuff injuries that may requires surgery. Whether you are a beginner athlete, a serious performer, or a well-seasoned veteran athlete past your prime; we know how to evaluate a new condition and get you on the proper path to follow, get you into a program to get you back into competition and help you get back to playing shape to excel in your given sport.

Common Sports Injuries

Sports injuries can occur suddenly or over time. When you have a sudden injury, you don’t know if you should apply heat or ice, should try to play through it or rest, or if you should get to the emergency room, obtain an x-ray or just rest it. At Adams Physical Therapy Services, we have expert physical therapists who know your sports and understand your injuries.

Ankle Sprains: The hardest issue with ankle sprains is determining how severe the injury is. Often there is significant swelling which is not necessarily a good indicator of the severity of the injury. Most commonly, there are two ligaments on the outside of the ankle that become injured. However, it is also possible to sprain all structures of the ankle with a severe rotation injury. Our therapists can help you sort out the injury and determine the best path for your quickest recovery.

Knee Tendonitis, Plica Syndrome and Knee Cap Issues: Except for knee dislocation, a tear of a ligament or meniscus, knee injuries are often repetitive in nature. They can occur due to muscle imbalance, training technique and improper supporting shoes. Ligament tears can keep you out of sport the longest. With our physical therapy team, we can shape your program to get you back to your sport and ready to play your best again.

Shoulder Injuries: Injuries of the shoulder can be sudden or repetitive though certain sports such as volleyball, baseball, softball and tennis can result in impingement issues. You may be able to perform your sport, however, this will make you less effective or you could be totally out of your sport for a long time. Having a physical therapist who is knowledge and understands the shoulder structures and the resulting issues in a loss of shoulder stability will speed up the process of rehabilitation and recovery to quickly get you back to your sport and perform at a higher lever to excel in your sport.

Prevention

Athletes know that the best way to avoid injury or re-injury is to build up strength and flexibility. Working out at the gym is great, but our physical therapists will guide you through specific moves that help you avoid future injuries based on your sport and your specific build. We’ll also talk you through strategies you can implement when you’re back on the field.
