Ava Kahlig, PTA

Ava (Kunkler) Kahlig, a Jay County native and 2019 graduate of the University of Saint Francis, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Exercise Science while also earning her degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Hard work is something Ava does not shy away from. Along with making time to study, Ava also played Volleyball for the Saint Francis Lady Cougers during her four (4) year tenure. As a JCHS Patriot alumni, Ava held the position of the middle blocker in volleyball, forward in basketball, and ran for the varsity track team. She has always been passionate about exercise and rehabilitation and has taken on the role of girls’ assistant volleyball coach for the Patriots. As the eldest daughter of ten, she feels it is important to demonstrate leadership and set a positive example for her younger siblings. Ava enjoys providing that same level of devotion to her patients, athletes, and members of the Jay County Community Centers boot-camp class.

What is your favorite principle?

Thanks to a previous coach of mine my favorite principle to use is “Work hard, have fun, love your teammates.” I strive to use this in coaching, life, and every team I am a part of. The moment a patient realizes “this is really working, I am feeling better, and I can continue to feel better” is the best moment for me.

I also love that there is always an opportunity, encouragement, and incentive to learn and grow.  I feel most alive when I am on wheels or on the water…riding a bike, rollerblading, wakeboarding. I am also excited when I get the chance to get out on the court and play some volleyball.

Fun Fact About Ava: Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am – 9:30 am you can participate in a fitness class with Ava at the Jay Community Center. Classes with Ava are sponsored by Adams Physical Therapy, Fyzical Therapy & Balance Centers.
